Your Reactions: Is the Village Election System Outdated?

Last month, we posed a critical question to the community: does the village's current election system—established over 50 years ago—still serve the needs of today’s residents, or is it time for a change? The system relies on COOCVE directors, who represent less than 3% of the population, to make decisions that impact every aspect of village life.

With modern technology making full-community elections more feasible, we asked whether it was time to open the voting process to all residents.

Your responses poured in, reflecting a range of opinions. Some residents expressed frustration with the current system, citing a lack of representation and engagement, while others defended the director-based approach as an efficient and manageable way to govern such a large community.

In this issue, we share the most compelling letters from residents, highlighting diverse perspectives on this critical debate. With the January elections fast approaching, these voices add depth to a conversation that could shape the future of village governance. CLICK HERE to hear what your neighbors have to say!
