Deerfield Pier closing for over a year

CVE Reporter

The Deerfield Beach Fishing Pier will be closing for up to a year and a half for repairs and renovations, according to city officials.

The city says the closure begins June 3rd and could last up to 18 months.  In addition to the pier, the adjacent parking lot will also be closed.  The city says a “series of structural repairs and renovations” are needed. It says structural damage to the pier was discovered during recent inspections.

The damage was “more extensive than originally reported,” according to the city.

In addition to repairing structural damage, the city says it will also upgrade the pier with new railings, lighting, two new pavilions for shade and gathering space, improved fish-cutting stations, informative signage, modern decking, and public art.
