Century Village Celebrates Chanukah with Festive Community Gathering

Century Village rang in the holiday season with its 11th annual Chanukah celebration on December 26th, drawing an enthusiastic crowd to honor the Festival of Lights. The event commemorated the miracle of one day’s oil lasting eight days, symbolized by lighting an additional candle on the menorah each evening.
Vice Mayor Todd Drosky joined in lighting the ‘shamash’ candle, while Chief Adam Hofstein lit two candles to mark the second night of Chanukah. The community was led in song by Cantor Benny Guttman, who performed renditions of God Bless America, Hatikva, Maoz Tzur, and traditional candle blessings.
Spiritual guidance was provided by Rabbi Edelman of Young Israel and Rabbi Goldblatt of Chabad, who offered prayers for the safe release of Jewish hostages in Gaza and shared Chanukah reflections. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Kolainu Boy’s Choir, directed by Elchonon Majeski, captivated attendees with Chanukah songs.
The celebration was enriched by music from Howard Stein and festive treats, including jelly donuts and sugar-free cake. Master of Ceremonies Eli Okun expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success, emphasizing the importance of unity in the Jewish community. The evening concluded with a collective lighting of the menorah, reinforcing the strength and spirit of Century Village.
